Monza vs Verona Predictions
- Both teams have scored in each of Monza’s last three games, and in each of the last six to feature Verona.
- Verona have conceded a league-high 24 goals in Serie A this season, and have lost seven consecutive league games.
- Monza have won four of their last seven matches in all competitions, scoring 11 goals in that run.
New boss, same problems for Verona
Replacing Gabriele Cioffi with Salvatore Bocchetti has done little to shift the clouds which have gathered in Verona. Having lost seven successive Serie A matches, three of them under the new boss, the Gialloblu are level with winless Cremonese at the foot of the Italian top-flight table, and things look unlikely to improve when they visit Monza on Sunday.
Verona’s tally of 24 goals conceded this season is the highest in Serie A, and giving up 18.8 expected goals (xGA) in their 12 league games – more than all but five teams – demonstrates the extent to which they hand opponents chances. Verona are yet to keep a single clean sheet all season, conceding two or more goals in each of their last seven games and seeing their defence breached 10 times on the road already, statistics which do not bode well for the strugglers.
Monza approach this match having suffered back-to-back defeats against Milan and Bologna, but the Serie A new boys have looked a different team in recent weeks, posting four victories in their last seven outings and playing a positive style under Raffaele Palladino. Only three Serie A teams – including Napoli and Inter Milan – average a higher possession share than Monza this term, and they will likely dictate the play here. However, both teams have scored in each of their last three games, suggesting Verona may land a blow.
Monza can win entertaining affair
With both teams also finding the net in the last five matches to feature Verona, backing the improved hosts to win a contest featuring goals at both ends appears a prudent play for Sunday’s match.
Meanwhile, Verona have lost four of their last five games by a 2-1 scoreline, and with Monza conceding 21 goals in their own 12 league outings this season, a repeat looks likely.
