Hosts need reprieve

Five points from safety, Morecambe have endured a tough campaign. They’ve found it very difficult to get their noses in front, while avoiding defeat is also something that the Shrimps have done irregularly.

Even on their own patch, Tuesday’s hosts have struggled to get going. They’ve won only two out of 13 matches at Globe Arena, losing six of the other nine. Vale ticking along

While Morecambe have struggled over the last couple of weeks, Port Vale have delivered some pleasing efforts, so much so that they’re now unbeaten in six matches. By winning two of those six, Vale haven’t exactly been in menacing form, but they’re becoming tough to beat, that’s for sure.

Playing away from home hasn’t exactly been something that Tuesday’s visitors have thrived at since the word go, but they’ve done well of late, losing just one of their last six travelling matches, three of which they’ve won. During that time, they’ve got the better of some very decent sides such as Crewe and Bradford, both of whom are currently in the top six.

Visitors to edge it

Morecambe haven’t been terrible at home of late, but of the two teams involved here, it is they who’ve offered less defensive resistance. In the betting, ‘Port Vale to Win & Under 3.5 Goals’ catches the eye. Vale haven’t scored a great deal of away goals in recent times, but they’re scoring regularly and have developed a habit of shutting teams out, keeping a clean sheet in three of their last five on the road. Add in that Morecambe rank as League 2’s worst team in terms of shots on target for at home, alongside the fact that less than four goals have been scored in 77% of both their home games and Port Vale’s away games, and siding with a low-scoring away win makes sense.
