Can Morecambe start strongly?

Morecambe stayed up by the skin of their teeth last season, beating the drop by just two points, but with Derek Adams having had a full summer to assemble his squad, they will be hopeful of a stronger campaign this year.

The Shrimps have not had a stellar pre-season, only managing draws against Non-League Chester and Macclesfield, as well as a 0-0 stalemate at home to Carlisle.

But they only lost three of their final 11 matches at the Globe Arena in 2021/22, while, after some promising friendly outings, new signing Ashley Hunter will be keen to make an impression should he make his debut.

Shrewsbury looking for an improvement

Shrewsbury have been treading water over the last few seasons, as indicated by their 18th placed finish in 2021/22, one position and eight points above Morecambe in the table.

They actually beat the Shrimps 5-0 at the New Meadow, but the fixture at this venue ended 2-0 to the hosts, who have lost just twice at home to Salop.

Steve Cotterill has strengthened his squad with some intriguing signings, including the arrival of Aidan O’Brien from Portsmouth and Sheffield Wednesday’s Chey Dunkley.

But pre-season results have been poor, including a 0-0 draw with minnows Telford, while there is a concern they will be under-cooked.

I predict Morecambe will win this game but I cannot see it being a particularly high-scoring affair, with a 1-0 victory to the hosts my correct score prediction.
