It’s the first time in three years that Motherwell are competing at this stage of the League Cup and they got their campaign off to a good start away at Queens Park.

A 1-0 win against a combative Spiders side should stand the Steelmen in good stead for a visit from the Doonhamers this weekend.

Queen of the South were involved in three penalty shoot outs in last season’s competition, but failed to make it past the first round.

And their defeat to the same Spiders side that Motherwell overcame suggests this will be a stern test for them.

The Doonhamers have a dismal record against top-flight opposition and we expect this to continue on Saturday with Motherwell worthy of support in the win to nil market.

The Lanarkshire side have kept their opponents from scoring in six of their last nine League Cup contests and were better defensively after Graham Alexander took over in January – finishing the campaign with five clean sheets in their last eight Premiership games.
