Motherwell vs St Mirren Predictions
- Motherwell have either drawn or lost in their last four home games, with the same happening in three of St Mirren’s last five away ties.
- The Steelmen have scored and conceded 1.38 and 1.54 goals at Fir Park this season.
- The Buddies have improved their goalscoring form recently, netting an average of 0.83 in their last six away days.
Steelmen searching for their win
Motherwell made it five league games without a win on Sunday as they failed to overcome their Lanarkshire rivals in a goalless draw at New Douglas Park, but the Steelmen remain in 3rd place and a single point ahead of Aberdeen.
Stephen Robinson’s side has also struggled in their recent home games, losing three and drawing one of their last four games at Fir Park. Motherwell have only scored once in those matches but have managed to net at least one goal in 9 of their 13 home ties this season. Moreover, their defence has also conceded at fair amount, letting in 1.54 goals on average whilst only keeping a clean sheet five times.
Buddies picking up form
Following their triumphant win on penalties over Motherwell in last week’s 4-4 thriller in the Scottish FA Cup, St Mirren had yet another game postponed on Friday, scheduled against Hearts. Despite being a single point ahead of Hamilton in the relegation zone, the Buddies have two games in hand.
Jim Goodwin’s side has improved their away form since losing their first eight ties on the road, and they’ve now picked up five points from their last five games. However, St Mirren still struggle to score goals, as they’ve netted a measly average of 0.69 this season and have failed to score in half of their last ten away days.
Stalemate in North Lanarkshire
Motherwell come into this game in hand knowing that they can open the gap up even further with Aberdeen, who trail them by a single point, although it’s a tough task for the hosts as they’ve failed to win any of their last five league games. St Mirren’s away form is improving, although it’s still the worst in the division.
We’re going to back double chance for the Buddies here, as they’ve either drawn or won three of their last five away days, with the Steelmen drawing or losing their last four games at Fir Park. As for the final score, a 1-1 draw seems is a good shout here, as the hosts have scored and conceded 1.38 and 1.54 goals at home, with St Mirren netting 0.83 goals in their last six away days whilst also conceding 1.16 in those ties.
