Lyon 2-1

Reason for tip

Nantes’ only home victories this term have come against bottom-half clubs, so they may struggle against Lyon. Les Gones’ two away league wins came against clubs close to Nantes in the table and they have won by exactly one goal on each of their last three visits to the Atlantic coast club, hence the 2-1 prediction.

Blanc highlights trait Nantes could expose against Lyon

An even contest will be anticipated when 15th-placed Nantes entertain eighth-placed Lyon in Ligue 1 on Wednesday.
The visitors bring some mixed away form to the Stade de la Beaujoire with two wins in their last three on the road, but an overall record of five defeats, one draw and just those two wins away from Groupama Stadium.
Les Gones beat Ligue 2 Metz in the Coupe de France last weekend, but showed a familiar trait boss Laurent Blanc later highlighted – an unconscious drop-off that allowed their opponents to get back into the game after taking the lead.

BTTS has been landing when Les Gones play away

This was also evident in their last away game at Brest when they conceded the equaliser with eight minutes of going in front. Both teams have scored in 75% of Lyon’s away Ligue 1 games this term and this midweek clash should see chances at either end as the two clubs are set to field depleted defences.
Lyon’s star right-back Malo Gusto has been missing recently, together with Brazilian central defender Henrique, while veteran Nantes centre-back Nicolas Pallois suffered a knee injury in their 2-0 cup win over amateur team AF Virois. The Canaries have kept only two cleans sheets in their last 13 home Ligue 1 contests, but have scored at least once in 11 of those matches. Both teams have scored in five of the last eight head-to-head meetings between the clubs too.

This could finish as a 2-1 Lyon win given Nantes’ only home victories this term have come against bottom-half clubs. Lyon’s two away league wins came against clubs close to Nantes in the table and they have won on each of their last three visits to the Atlantic coast club.
