Lyon to Win

Reason for tip

Nantes have lost their last six home Ligue 1 matches while Lyon have won their last four away Ligue 1 fixtures. The visitors are in tremendous form and have more decisive players in the attacking phase than Nantes.

Lyon 2-1

Reason for tip

Lyon have won their last five away games in all competitions and three of those were by 2-1 scorelines. They have scored exactly two goals in four of their last eight league games away from home and conceded in six of those matches. Nantes, meanwhile, have conceded exactly two goals in four of their last six home contests.

Canaries can be silenced by lethal Lyon

Nantes’ dreadful recent league record against Lyon looks set to continue when they play host to Ligue 1’s most-improved away performers.

Les Gones had won just one of their first seven road games this season, but have come out on top in five of their last six. The appointment of Pierre Sage in late November appears to have been a major turning point in their season and so too does the return to form and fitness of Alexandre Lacazette.

The former Arsenal striker has scored 13 Ligue 1 goals this term, including seven in his last nine league appearances and should be a major threat to the Nantes defence this Sunday.

Backing the visitors looks like Sage advice

Les Canaris are two points clear of the relegation zone in 14th place, seven points back of Lyon in mid-table. Anton Kombouare’s side halted a three-match losing skid with a win at slumping Nice last weekend.

But Nantes rarely excel against Lyon, having lost five and drawn two of their last seven meetings in the league. Lacazette secured three points for Les Gones in one of Sage’s first matches in charge back in December and the team have become a lot more efficient since then, particularly away from home.

The odds-against price for Lyon to record a fifth road win in a row are attractive and a 2-1 victory, which the visitors have achieved at both Metz and Montpellier recently, appears the most likely result.
