Napoli dropped points again at the weekend as they drew with Genoa and Serie A’s ninth-placed side could be in for another dismal evening as they host Barcelona in the first leg of their Champions League tie.

The hosts have fallen apart since Luciano Spalletti left and head into this tie with one win from their last five matches, while they have already lost six times at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

Barca to claim vital first-leg win

Barcelona have had their issues this season and, with eight points between themselves and leaders Real Madrid, already appear to be out of the La Liga title race, but they have improved of late and will be focusing on putting in a good showing in the Champions League.

The Catalan giants have won three and drawn one of their last four games and have won four of their last five away games in all competitions. They last met Napoli in the 2021/22 Europa League knockout stages and beat them 4-2 away from home, so I’m backing another away win on Wednesday.

Barca have conceded in 12 successive away games, though, so I don’t expect a clean sheet and a third 2-1 win in their last nine games looks a solid correct score prediction.
