Netherlands vs Latvia Predictions
- The Dutch have conceded in their last five internationals and shipped four against Turkey in midweek.
- Latvia’s last eight starts have been against far inferior opposition, though Dainis Kazakevics’ side have managed to strike in all but one of those matches.
Consolation possible for the visitors in Amsterdam
Netherlands should bounce back from their midweek defeat to Turkey in style when they entertain Latvia in Amsterdam on Saturday, though it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that the visitors can bag themselves a consolation at the Johan Cruyff Arena.
There’s 122 places between these nations in the FIFA Rankings which tells you everything you need to know about how this contest is likely to play out, but with the hosts at heavy odds-on, there’s zero appeal in the match betting and little value to be had in the handicaps.
The Dutch are fancied to triumph by a comfortable margin, but we’re keen to focus on the hosts’ backline which has been less than assured in recent starts.
Frank De Boer’s men have now conceded in their last five games and allowed Turkey to hit four past them on Wednesday evening, so there’s a small chance that Latvia could spoil a clean sheet in Amsterdam.
The visitors have taken on far inferior opposition of late but have managed to net in seven of their last eight outings – and the possibility of a consolation goal here could grow if the Dutch already have the points sewn up and decide to take their foot off the pedal.
With that in mind, a small wager on both teams to score is tempting at around 5/2 and we’re also forecasting a 5-1 score-line in favour of De Boer’s charges as they seek to get off the mark in Group G.
