Tip Reasoning

  • New England Revolution have won all five of their 2021 home MLS games.
  • Toronto FC have lost their last four away games, including a 7-1 drubbing at DC United a few days ago.
  • Both teams have scored in three of the last five Revs home games and in five of seven Toronto road trips.

Revs to keep home form going against troubled Toronto

New England Revolution are the only team in the MLS than can still boast a 100 per cent home record and it’s unlikely their perfection will be put under too much pressure by Toronto FC on Thursday.

The Revs are just back from a two-game road trip in which they picked up only one point, but Bruce Arena’s side remain three points clear at the top of the Eastern Conference.

They couldn’t have chosen a better fixture to return to winning ways with as Toronto are the worst of the east and possess a stinking record on their travels.

Their -13 away goal differential was inflated by a 7-1 thrashing at DC United last weekend – a scoreline that sounds even worse when you discover that the hosts had managed just two goals in their previous 406 minutes played at home.

The ownership fired coach Chris Armas on Sunday, citing TFC had become “too soft” in conceding a league-high 27 goals through 11 games.

So it will be ex-US MNT and NYCFC assistant Javier Perez who takes charge of his first MLS game this week.

Given the owners suggested the core group of players weren’t coping with Armas’ style, it must be doubtful that his number two instantly gets a tune out of them.

So this should be an emphatic Revs win in line with some of their recent home victories which have seen them post three goals.

Toronto’s dressing room may be happier now there’s change in the air, however, so we are still taking them to score – in a 3-1 defeat – as they have done in five of their seven away-days this year.
