New York Red Bulls vs Chicago Fire Predictions
New York Red Bulls have had a pretty disastrous start to the season. After winning the MLS Supporters Shield last season they lost key defensive pairing Matt Miazga and Damien Perrinelle, the first to Chelsea and the second to injury. This has taken some time to get used to, which resulted in them losing six of their opening seven matches and conceded 15 goals in the process. What can’t be explained is why they failed to find the net in six of those games.
They finally got back on track when they beat Orlando City and FC Dallas at home in back to back matches, but since then they have drawn to Orlando City and, most recently, lost to DC United.
This leaves the current MLS regular season champions second from bottom in the MLS Eastern Conference with just ten points from their opening 11 games. The three teams immediately surrounding them all have at least one game in hand on them too, including Chicago Fire.
The visitors are at the bottom of the Eastern Conference, just like last season. They do have two games in hand over New York Red Bulls though and only lag three points behind them. However, if they lose this one it would leave them six points adrift.
Chicago Fire are winless in five matches after their 2-0 defeat at New England Revolution at the weekend, with three defeats and two draws being played out since their 1-0 win at home to Philadelphia Union.
This victory is their only win of the season so far, and if you look back into last season they have only won two of their last 18 games, with 11 of those being defeats.
Away from home it gets even worse for Chicago Fire. They haven’t won a match on the road since July 2014, and seven of their last nine have ended in defeat. They have conceded 21 goals in these nine matches too, resulting in six of the games having at least three goals scored.
Each of New York Red Bulls’ three home victories this season has resulted in at least three goals being scored too, with a grand total of 16 goals being netted in these three wins. Ten of their last 14 home games have seen at least three goals scored too, and they have won 11 of these games.
I can’t see beyond a New York Red Bulls win on Wednesday, and I’m expecting a high scoring match too. Odds of 6/5 for a New York Red Bulls Win and Over 2.5 Goals look good to me, as do odds of 11/1 for a 3-1 correct score prediction.
