Newcastle/Newcastle

Reason for tip

Newcastle are unbeaten in 11 Premier League games and have won eight of those. They have been leading at half-time and full-time in seven of their last nine and Leeds have conceded in the first-half in 73% of their top-flight matches this season.

Newcastle 3-0

Reason for tip

Leeds have conceded exactly three goals in three of their last five Premier League games and face a Newcastle side with the best defensive record in the league. The Magpies won 3-0 on Boxing Day and have won to nil in three of their last four games.

Newcastle vs Leeds Predictions

  • Newcastle have been winning at half-time and full-time in seven of their last nine Premier League matches.
  • Leeds have conceded in the first half in 73% of their league games this season.
  • Leeds have conceded exactly three goals in three of their last five matches.

Magpies show no signs of slowing down

Newcastle welcomed the Premier League’s return in emphatic fashion on Boxing Day as they cruised to a 3-0 win away to Leicester and they should be able to extend their excellent run when they host Leeds on Saturday.

The Magpies have been a revelation this season, with that win at the King Power Stadium leaving them third in the table and just seven points behind leaders Arsenal. They are unbeaten in 11 league games and have won eight of those, while their well-balanced setup puts them top of the defensive charts with just 11 goals conceded.

Relegation battle looms for Whites

The same cannot be said of Leeds who, after their 3-1 loss to Manchester City on Wednesday, have conceded almost three times as many goals as their opponents on New Year’s Eve.

That defeat for the Whites was their eighth of the season and their seventh in their last ten outings, putting them 15th in the table and only two points above the relegation zone.

Newcastle to start strong

Given Newcastle’s form, I fully expect another win for the top-four hopefuls but better value can be found in backing them to come out of the blocks fast.

Eddie Howe’s side have been leading at the break in seven of their last nine league games and have won all of them, while Leeds have conceded in the first half in 73% of their games, making a Newcastle/Newcastle HT/FT result appealing.

Leeds have conceded exactly three goals in three of their last five matches, too, and face a Magpies side that have kept five clean sheets in their last seven. A repeat of Newcastle’s 3-0 win on Boxing Day is the most attractive option in the correct score market.

Miguel Almiron stands out as an anytime goalscorer bet. The Paraguayan has scored nine league goals this season and has found the net in seven of his last nine Premier League appearances, scoring eight goals in this period.
