Germany to Win

Reason for tip

Germany enter a new era under Julian Negelsmann’s stewardship and they should be expect to ut on a good show against the United States, who don’t lose very often but rarely test themselves against top-class opposition.

Germany 2-0

Reason for tip

Germany scored in each of their previous nine away matches before they were beaten 1-0 by Poland in a friendly, but don’t expect them to run away with this one. Five of their last six away games have featured fewer than three goals, so go with a 2-0 win for the visitors.

USA vs Germany Predictions

  • Five of Germany’s last six away matches have featured fewer than three goals
  • Germany have found the net in nine of their last ten away games
  • Both teams have scored in just three of the USA’s last 12 home friendlies

New era can start with a win

Germany will host next summer’s Euros but expectations of a home success have been dampened by a pretty miserable run which led to coach Hansi Flick’s departure.

A succession of poor results following a group-stage exit at last year’s World Cup sent the former Bayern Munch coach packing, but Julen Nagelsmann should be confident that his new team can get off to a winning start under his stewardship.

His team head to Hartford, Connecticut having beaten World Cup finalists France 2-1 in their most recent game and that should have stopped the rot.

They should prove too strong for the Americans, who are looking towards the 2026 World Cup, for which they have already qualified as hosts.

Lack of quality opposition a worry for Americans

Geography dictates that the USA do not get the opportunity much to test themselves against top-draw opposition and they could find the Germans too hot to handle.

They have emerged from the disappointment of their Gold Cup shootout exit to Panama with two comfortable friendly wins, but they came against Uzbekistan and Oman, so this is plainly a much tougher test.

It would be understandable if this was not a swashbuckling performance from the visitors and as five fo their last six away matches have featured fewer than three goals, a 2-0 win for Nagelsmann’s men looks a sensible correct-score play.
