Newcastle vs Manchester City Predictions
Newcastle helped to blow the Premier League relegation battle wide open on Saturday with a 3-0 win over Swansea at St James. Park. This, couple with Sunderland’s impressive result, means that Newcastle, Sunderland, and Norwich all have a lot to play for between now and the end of the season.
This win ended a run of six games without a victory for Newcastle, five of which have resulted in defeat for the Toon Army. There had been vague signs of hope lurking within Newcastle’s improving approach to football, but this weekend victory has finally given them a bit of confidence.
They’ll need it on Tuesday as well. They are coming up against a Manchester City side who strengthened their own Premier League position with a 3-0 hammering of Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Sergio Aguero bagged a hat trick as City look to fend off the top four challengers.
This was their 5th game in a row unbeaten, which includes two very impressive results against Paris Saint Germain that have sent Manuel Pellegrini’s side into the Champions League semi-finals for the first time in their history.
It doesn’t matter that Newcastle are facing a side who are on a high at the moment, because they need to go for the win on Tuesday. This could open up a lot of gaps in their already shaky defence, so we’re expecting goals to be on the agenda on Tuesday.
Six of Newcastle’s last nine outings have seen at least three goals scored, whilst Manchester City have seen goalfests in four of their last five in all competitions. This, plus the hosts’ need to go on the attack, make odds of 13/20 for Over 2.5 Goals look good value. I’m backing a Manchester City win though with my 3-1 correct score prediction.
