Newport County vs Blackburn Rovers Predictions

Newport County have had a pretty disappointing season in terms of league form, but their FA Cup run is keeping faint dreams of glory alive.

Their disastrous start to the season put them in an edgy position from the start, and despite their run of good form as we approached December they still find themselves in a precarious position in League Two.

They have lost three of their last four outings and won none, a run which saw their ten match unbeaten streak come to an end and caused them to slip back down to 20th in the League Two table.

This is quite a big decline from their 9th place finish last season, but an FA Cup win over Championship side Blackburn Rovers would surely lift the confidence back up.

Blackburn aren’t having the best of seasons either. They have lost their last three on the bounce and failed to score in their last four games.

They, like Newport County, did have a fairly successful run towards the end of the first half of the season, but even that eight match unbeaten streak wasn’t enough to propel them very far up the table. They are in 17th position in the Championship with 28 points from 24 games.

Newport County have been pretty shocking at the back in recent weeks and have let ten goals slip by them in their last five matches. However, Blackburn Rovers are really struggling for goals now that Rudy Gestede has left, and it will be interesting to see if the visitors can take advantage of Newport’s shaky back line.

Blackburn Rovers have been the source of all things boring in the Championship lately, scoring just one in their last five games and conceding three. This makes me think that this could be a fairly lifeless match, with Newport setting up to keep the higher tier side out and Rovers’ lacklustre attack struggling to break them down. I’m thinking an Under 2.5 Goals bet at 3/4 is the best option along with a drab 0-0 draw at 17/2.
