Rock-solid Roma to eke out another narrow victory

Roma enjoyed their first significant victory of the Gian Piero Gasperini era on Sunday when they won the Derby della Capitale at rivals Lazio’s expense.

A first-half strike from Lorenzo Pellegrini was enough to earn Roma the points in what was their third 1-0 victory in four outings since the start of the new campaign.

Gasperini’s watertight Roma limited Lazio to just two shots on target at the Stadio Olimpico, with Gianluca Mancini and Evan Ndicka excelling in a three-man backline alongside Zeki Celik, who was filling in for injured regular, Mario Hermoso.

Defensive solidity could provide Roma with a recipe for success again on Wednesday. Nice have been below par this season, suffering defeats in five of their first seven assignments of the campaign while scoring one or fewer goals in six of the same matches.

Nice failed to score in both legs of their Champions League pre-qualifiers against Benfica before their demotion to the Europa League, so they might struggle to get behind this expertly drilled Roma unit.
