Nigeria vs Egypt Predictions
- Nigeria are averaging 1.5 goals scored per-game across their last six outings.
- Egypt scored at least once within 90 minutes in 15 of their last 17 matches.
- Three of the last five H2H meetings saw both teams score.
Clash of the titans
Here we have potentially the pick of the opening group stage matches, as three-time AFCON winners Nigeria meet record seven-time winners Egypt in a clash of African titans. Both nations are expected to progress from this group, so it would be no surprise to see these two go hammer and tong for a positive start.
Nigeria’s squad is filled with talented players, many of whom are plying their trade in Europe’s top leagues, with no fewer than five players plying their trade in the English Premier League. Notably, Leicester’s Kelechi Iheanacho recently contributed to three goals against Manchester City and it would be no surprise if he provides the outlet for Nigeria in this clash.
On the other hand we have Egypt, led by their poster boy, the talismanic Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah. Since winning the tournament in three consecutive editions between 2006-2010, Egypt only managed to get as far as the round of 16 in the 2019 edition. As such, the Pharaohs will be at it from the off in this clash in search of a better performance.
A real end-to-end affair
All in all, I predict that both teams will score in this clash between two sides desperate to improve on recently underwhelming tournament performances. However, I do think they could end up cancelling one another out, which is why I believe 1-1 looks a decent pick in the correct score market.
