Latics can top struggling hosts

Wigan are the best bet to win at Northampton in League One on Saturday. The hosts are out of form and Wigan can take advantage.

They are two places above Northampton in the table, but both teams have lost more games than they’ve won this season. Wigan, in 16th, have 13 wins and 16 defeats, while Northampton have won 12 and lost 19.

Northampton have been in patchy form recently, with two wins, one draw and three defeats in their last six League One games. They beat Peterborough 4-0 at odds of 3/1, but also lost 3-0 to 21st-placed Crawley.

Wigan will be optimistic of finding the net, having scored in four straight league games, but they haven’t got more than a goal in any of them. They have averaged just 1.10 goals a game in their ten away games against other bottom-half teams this season.

The hosts have been unable to keep their opponents at bay in three straight League One games and have failed to keep a clean sheet in 16 of their last 20. Wigan can expect to find plenty of space in Saturday’s clash.

Wigan have won five of the last seven League One meetings with Northampton by a single goal and both teams have scored in four of the last five encounters between these sides. A 1-0 away win for Wigan looks a decent correct-score bet.
