Norwich 2-1

Norwich have won six of their last seven meetings with Birmingham, going unbeaten in the last seven, and should have the edge after holding onto the likes of Teemu Pukki, Todd Cantwell and others.

Norwich vs Birmingham Predictions

  • Six of Birmingham City’s last seven competitive outings have seen goals at both ends.
  • Norwich City, meanwhile, last kept a competitive clean sheet against Burnley in April, conceding 23 goals in their last nine league matches.
  • Three of the last four head-to-head meetings between the sides have featured goals at both ends.

Canaries not off to flying start

Having been widely tipped to dominate the Championship upon their return this season, perennial yo-yo club Norwich City are yet to taste victory in the second tier, having been held to a 1-1 draw by Wigan Athletic last time out despite racking up the most shots in any Championship game this season (22). With the Canaries flattering to deceive early on, Tuesday’s EFL Cup meeting with Birmingham City looks set to serve up goals.

Indeed, the Blues have seen both teams score in six of their last seven competitive matches, and are flying high after taking four points from their opening two league games. Only Preston North End (32) have recorded more shots among Championship sides than Birmingham’s 30 in their opening two contests, and three of their last four meetings with Norwich have seen both teams net.

Norwich undoubtedly have the attacking quality to trouble any Championship side after holding onto the likes of Teemu Pukki, Todd Cantwell, Josh Sargent and others. At the other end, however, Norwich have struggled under Dean Smith; their last competitive shutout came in early April, since which they’ve conceded 23 goals in nine league outings either side of relegation.

Goals at both ends a prudent play

Norwich’s disappointing start to the campaign, as well as the unpredictability which often comes with early-season cup ties, makes backing both teams to score the best play for Tuesday.

However, having avoided defeat in seven consecutive meetings with the Blues, winning six, Norwich should have the quality to reach the second round, with a 2-1 home win a decent correct score prediction.
