Reason For Nottingham Forest vs Stoke City Predictions

  • Nottingham Forest have drawn 16 of their 45 Championship matches this season
  • Forest have had ten 1-1 draws in this season’s Championship
  • Stoke have drawn 1-1 in three of their last five away matches

Forest could be held to a draw by Stoke

Only a massive goal difference swing can deny Nottingham Forest a place in the Championship play-offs but they can get the point needed to make absolutely certain with the draw looking like the best bet when Stoke visit the City Ground.

Forest are three points clear of seventh-placed Swansea with a goal difference which is superior by five so it should be okay, although taking them to make sure is wise.

Draws have been something of a speciality for Forest this season with 16 in what has been a decent campaign considering it is Sabri Lamouchi’s first as a manager in English football.

Lamouchi has made Forest extremely difficult to break down and they have an excellent defensive record this season with only 46 goals conceded.

Forest short of goals beyond Lewis Grabban

The problem has been goals with Lewis Grabban the only player to stand out with 20 to his name which is more than double the tally of anyone else.

Joe Lolley and Sammy Ameobi have chipped in but it is going to be a concern for Lamouchi when it comes to the shootout of the play-offs to come.

Forest may have thought they could have challenged for automatic promotion at one stage, however, in recent weeks the Nottingham outfit have been happy to grind out the points. They have drawn three of their last five matches and that is why we are happy to predict another draw against Stoke, with 1-1 looking like another bet to consider.

Ten times Forest have had 1-1 draws this season and it is also the same score opponents Stoke have finished in three of their last five away trips at Bristol City, Reading and Luton.

Travel-sick Potters can still make themselves hard to beat

An away win for Stoke would seem unlikely as their last success on their travels came on January 20 at West Brom.

The subsequent eight away games have seen four draws and four defeats.

Indeed Stoke have won only four times in away games this season in the Championship, yet they have become a much harder team to beat since Michael O’Neill as manager to replace the sacked Nathan Jones.

Stoke’s improved spirit was there for all to see in recent games since a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of champions Leeds they have reacted well to make sure there will be no relegation from the Championship for the Potters this season.

City managed to beat Birmingham 2-0 and then put a massive dent in Brentford’s promotion dreams with a 1-0 success, while between those games Stoke drew 1-1 at Bristol City.

So, Stoke have conceded only once in their last three games and that is another reason to point to a tight game with a draw and 1-1 the best predictions.
