Oldham vs Tranmere Predictions

Differing objectives

Oldham Athletic come into this game in 23rd place and currently occupying a relegation place after Carlisle won and overtook them last weekend. They did win last time out but that was in the EFL Trophy and in League Two they have lost three of their last four games including each of their last two.

Oldham hold the worst home record in the league having accumulated just seven points from a possible 27 thus far. They won their last home game beating Port Vale 3-2 but have scored just seven goals in eight other home fixtures.

Tranmere meanwhile, are vying for a play-off position having moved up to 10th place and four points off the top seven with a game in hand. However, they have won just one of their nine games away from home in the league so far scoring just five goals.

Dull affair expected

Under 2.5 goals has landed in 14 of Tranmere’s 18 league fixtures so far this season, which is 77% of their games. On the road, seven of ther nine games have featured two goals or less and with an average of just 1.4 goals per game away from home there doesn’t tend to be too many goals.

12 of Oldham’s 19 games have seen over 2.5 goals this season but that’s mainly down to the opposition which I don’t think is relevant here given that Rovers have scored just five goals on the road. Hence our under 2.5 prediction and with goals at such a premium I think they could cancel each other out entirely with a 0-0 draw.
