Olympiacos vs Atalanta Predictions
- Both teams have scored in four of Atalanta’s last five matches.
- Despite a 2-1 win in the first leg, the Italian outfit may not be worth backing outright, after a run of one win in seven games.
- Olympiacos have scored in all but one of their 17 home games in all competitions.
Europa League tie remains finely poised, with tough trip awaiting Atalanta
Although Atalanta came from a goal behind to record a deserved first-leg victory over Olympiacos in Bergamo last week, there still appears to be life in this Europa League tie, with Atalanta only winning one of their last seven matches and Olympiacos winning 13 of their 17 home games, in all competitions.
The Greek outfit, who remain unbeaten after 23 games of their domestic season, have only failed to score in one of those 17 home matches, and have netted in 11 of their 12 European matches this term, including Champions League and Europa League qualification campaigns. Pedro Martins’ team have a strong European record in recent years, beating Arsenal and PSV Eindhoven in consecutive Europa League campaigns, so should be expected to trouble Atalanta in what is sure to be a fierce atmosphere.
Atalanta’s first-leg win is their only success in seven matches, as Gian Piero Gasperini’s hopes of a Champions league place begin to unravel. Both teams have scored in four of their last five matches, and despite sitting fourth in Serie A, their record of 30 goals conceded in 25 games is not strong enough to compete with those above them.
Both teams to net looks likely, but can Atalanta edge through?
Given both teams have netted in 10 of the visitors’ last 14 games, and knowing Olympiacos will have to attack an effervescent Atalanta side, both teams to score looks an excellent play ahead of this clash in Athens.
Atalanta are difficult to trust in the outright markets at the moment, but their away record remains the best in Italy’s top-flight, picking up 30 points from 13 road trips, so they should be able to progress to the last 16 here. It will be close, however, so a 1-1 draw could be a decent correct score play.
