Orlando City vs Real Salt Lake Predictions
Orlando City were really quite impressive in their debut MLS season last term. They battled to a 7th place finish in the Eastern Conference, only missing out on the playoffs due to a host of injury problems that they picked up.
Fortunately key playmaker Kaka was not one of these injuries, and he managed to provide nine goals and six assists in his 34 league games. If he can remain injury free for this campaign and Cyle Larin picks up where he left off they should make the playoffs this season.
Real Salt Lake have let backup players Luis Gil and Sebastian Saucedo leave the club, and are now relying even more on the ageing Javier Morales. There is no doubt that he has the quality, but he’s over 35 years old now and could struggle for fitness in a league that is growing in competitiveness every season. They do have the impressive Yura Movsisyan on loan from Spartak Moscow though, and the 28 year old is in his prime and ready to provide Real Salt Lake with the out and out striker they needed last term.
They will be hoping to return to glory in the coming season after missing out on the playoffs for the first time in seven years last term. But the players will need to adapt to the new 4-3-3 system first rather than hanging on to the distant memory of their trademark dimaond formation from years gone by.
Both teams are largely unchanged from last season and will know what to expect of each other on Sunday. I think the home advantage is key though, so I’m backing an Orlando City Win at 21/20 along with a 2-1 correct score prediction at 15/2.
