Ostersunds FK vs GIF Sundsvall Predictions

This Saturday’s game in the Swedish Allsvenskan features an Ostersunds side that are in a state of freefall after three heavy defeats leave them quickly reassessing their objectives for this season. This on the surface is a good game for them to try and stop the rot, with GIF Sundsvall also in very poor form and looking in danger of relegation after 12 games.

Ostersunds’ season started steadily enough, as they lost just 1 of their opening 8 games to suggest they had managed to rebuild well following a year in which their long-serving coach and some key players left. However it has all come crashing down in recent weeks. Their last 3 matches have ended in a 4-0 and two 3-1 defeats and that includes a home loss against a struggling Orebro side which should give Sundsvall reason to believe that they can pull off something of an upset here.

Sundsvall have only managed to take 1 point from their last 6 league games though. That came at home to defending champions AIK last weekend but they were involved in the league’s only midweek game, which saw them beaten 2-1 at Malmo. Even so, they will take some confidence from that result, given it was away to the runaway leaders and title favourites who had scored 5 at home only a few days earlier.

Certainly their poor form can at least to some extent be explained by some tough fixtures, with 3 of their last 6 matches against current top five sides. They’ve not been getting blown away though and only 1 of their last 9 games has seen them lose by a margin of greater than a single goal.

With Ostersunds looking really poor in recent games, it’s almost impossible to see any sense in backing the hosts here at quite short odds. They’ve gone 5 without victory now and backing Sundsvall Double Chance could be worth considering in this one.

Going for Both Teams to Score also looks good. That has been a winning bet in 4 of Ostersunds’ last 5 games and in Sundsvall’s last two games, where they managed to score against the defending champions as well as the favourites for this season’s title.

Sundsvall will fancy they can cause an upset here but given they’ve not won away since last October, backing a 1-1 Draw looks more tempting in the Correct Score market than an outright away win and a point would at least give Ostersunds the sense that they’ve managed to stop the rot.
