Oxford United vs Wigan Predictions

  • Both teams have scored in six of the last eight Oxford home games.
  • Both teams have scored in the last six Wigan away games.
  • Callum Lang has scored six goals in his last six games for Wigan.

Wigan seek route back to the summit

The top game in League One this weekend takes place at the Kassam Stadium where Wigan Athletic go in search of the three points that could potentially put them back at the summit.

A number of positive COVID-19 cases within the Oxford camp saw the reverse fixture postponed back in November and Wigan still have that game in hand on leaders Rotherham, who are two points clear.

The Latics possess the best away record in the Football League in terms of points per game, having only dropped five away from the DW Stadium so far. Leam Richardson’s men demonstrated an ability to beat even the strongest sides in the division on their own patch when winning 2-1 at Plymouth at the end of November. No other League One team has scored more away goals either.

Latics’ Lang looks like value to score

So it would be reasonable to expect them to score and avoid defeat here, even if the U’s are on a four-game home unbeaten run in the league. Oxford’s home results are good, but they haven’t beaten a team currently above tenth in the table.

Their home draws with Wycombe and Rotherham suggest they can hold off the better sides, which is why we must shy away from the tempting away price on Wigan and head for the safer haven of a both teams to score bet.

Both teams have scored in six of the last eight Oxford home games and in the last six Wigan away games, so there’s a good precedent for the bet to land on Saturday. Also worth noting is the goalscoring form of Wigan forward Callum Lang. The Liverpudlian’s overall record of 17 in 41 for Wigan makes his 5/2 anytime quote look like a snip, but he’s also hit six in his last six appearances.
