Panama vs El Salvador Predictions

• Panama have conceded just one goal across three home qualifiers.
• El Salvador have scored three times in seven qualifying matches.
• Panama have won two of their last three qualifying games including a 1-0 victory over table-toppers USA.

Hosts looking to fend off chasing pack

Panama sit 4th and currently occupy the inter-confederation play-off place at the halfway stage of qualifying. However, Costa Rica, Jamaica and El Salvador are all waiting to pounce and sit five points behind the Canal Men. A win here for Panama would all but end El Salvador’s chances while Jamaica host the USA so there is a chance that two contenders fall this week.

The home side will be desperate to at least vanquish El Salvador who they lost to 1-0 in the reverse fixture. Panama solidified their place in the top four with a 3-2 win over Honduras on Friday night thanks to three goals in the final 10 minutes to snatch the victory and at home, they have been a lot more assured.

They have impressed on their own patch holding Mexico to a 1-1 draw as well as recording wins over Costa Rica and the USA, accompanying both victories with a clean sheet.

Struggling in front of goal

El Salvador have looked toothless in attack throughout this qualifying campaign scoring just three goals in seven qualifiers.

The visitors have lost each of their two games away from home including a 2-1 loss in Costa Rica last month but they managed to keep their slim hopes of a first World Cup appearance in 40 years alive by rescuing a point at home to Jamaica on Friday.

A win here would leave El Salvador two points behind Panama but they are heavy outsiders and rightly so. They just can’t seem to create opportunities frequently enough and that’s why I’m tipping a Panama 2-0 win to-nil.
