Panama vs Mexico Predictions & Betting Tips, Match Previews

Panama produced an excellent defensive display on Friday to overcome all the odds and beat Honduras 1-0 away from home in the first match of this final round of World Cup qualification.

This was just their second win in their last seven games in all competitions, with four of the other six ending in defeat as well. However, Mexico will be a far tougher test of their abilities with their vastly increased attacking ability in comparison to Honduras.

The likes of Giovani dos Santos and Javier Hernandez will partner up front for Mexico, with both of them enjoying some excellent form at the moment. Hernandez is especially dangerous, with the former Manchester United striker being Mexico’s top scorer and already having eight club goals this season. Backing him to score anytime could be a very good choice.

Mexico came into this as one of the favourites for the top spot in the group, but after their opening day victory over other favourites United States they are considered the top dogs now. This victory came courtesy of veteran defender Rafael Marquez who found the winner in the 89th minute, assisted by the scorer of their first goal Miguel Layun.

This victory made it four wins from their last five games, with their last defeat being a 7-0 mauling at the hands of Chile in the Copa America. That disastrous match aside, Mexico are in incredible form. They have won 15 of their last 18 games and have lost just once in their last 28 matches.

Panama may be coming into this game having enjoyed a good result on Friday, but not many will fancy their chances against Mexico. Considering their recent form and the fact they overcame fellow group favourites USA away from home on Saturday I think odds of 4/5 for a Mexico Win are good value. I’m backing that along with a 2-0 correct score prediction at 13/2.
