Paris Saint Germain vs Manchester City Predictions
Paris Saint Germain fielded a surprisingly strong team at the weekend despite this crucial match being on the horizon. Zlatan Ibrahimovic was one of the biggest names to be played, and he proved his worth with a hat trick against Nice in the hosts’ 4-1 victory.
Ibrahimovic was joined by Marquinhos, David Luiz, Thiago Silva, Blaise Matuidi, and Thiago Motta in a very strong squad selection considering this upcoming match and the fact they have already won the Ligue 1 title.
Despite the possible issue of fatigue, the impressive 4-1 victory will have lifted spirits in the Paris Saint Germain camp after a run of two draws, two wins, and one defeat in their previous five home matches.
Manchester City also got an impressive victory with a 4-0 thrashing of Bournemouth, lifting their own poor run of form. They came into the match having drawn two, lost two, and won one of their last five games away from home. Overall they have only won two of their last six outings, losing twice and drawing twice.
This has put them all but out of the Premier League title race. They are down in 4th position, four points off Arsenal in 3rd and a huge 15 off leaders Leicester. They are having to look over their shoulders as well, because Manchester United and West Ham are bearing down on their top four position. Both teams are within a win of taking the position.
But Manuel Pellegrini is on the way out this summer, and his main priority will be Champions League success as a parting gift for his club. They showed this when they fielded a massively weakened side in their FA Cup defeat to Chelsea as they rested players in preparation for a game against Dynamo Kiev. They don’t have that luxury now though, with many of their first team players sidelined with injury.
Raheem Sterling, Joe Hart, Vincent Kompany, and Yaya Toure are all expected to miss out on Wednesday, although the promising return of Kevin De Bruyne on Saturday will have boosted everyone involved with the club.
Paris Saint Germain have already shown their class with a 4-2 aggregate win over Chelsea in the last round, and at the moment I wouldn’t say Manchester City are any better than Chelsea. I think the Ligue 1 champions can get a win on Wednesday, and with Ibrahimovic coming into the game on the back of another Ligue 1 hat-trick they could score a few. I’m backing a Paris Saint Germain win at 7/10 along with a 3-1 correct score prediction at excellent value odds of 12/1.
