Pau vs PSG Predictions
- PSG have won each of their last eight away games in all competitions with 27 goals scored and just three conceded in this time.
- PSG have already had three clashes with lower-league sides in the cups this season and have been extremely professional in each one, scoring eleven and conceded just one goal in three wins.
- Pau have won just two of their last home matches with ten goals conceded along the way.
- Pau have suffered some recent disappointments such as a defeat to third bottom Le Puy Foot (2-3) and draws with 10th place Créteil (3-3) and 14th place Quevilly-Rouen (0-0).
Pau slack in front of their own fans
Pau were commended a few weeks back for beating Ligue 1 Bordeaux in the previous round of the cup. It was a tremendous achievement as the third-tier minnows managed to score in extra time to win 3-2. They have another, even trickier task here though as the Parisians come to town but with this one happening in the city of Pau, they will back themselves.
The Stade du Hameau has generally been where Pau have played their best football this season but in recent weeks that has wained. They have won just two of their last six home matches with a defeat to third bottom Le Puy Foot (2-3) as well as draws against 10th place Créteil (3-3) and 5th place Lyon Duchère (1-1). They have conceded ten goals in this time and these cracks in the defence could be exploited by Paris. Their most recent game was a draw away to 14th place Quevilly-Rouen (0-0) so Pau will really need to be on their ‘A’ game here as they don’t enter the match in terrific form.
PSG at their best on the road
Despite this being quite the occasion for the opposition with Pau likely to be backed by the 18,000 strong Stade du Hameau, it should be business as usual for PSG. They continued their streak of hot form at the weekend as they dispatched of 5th place Lille (2-0). Neymar got the goals to keep them ticking along with what is now their eighth consecutive away win in a row. They’ve scored 27 goals and conceded just three in this time so will be confident of putting a few past Pau.
PSG have already had a few tricky cup ties to contend with this season but they have generally done very well. Away to top of Ligue 2 Lorient they managed to weather the storm and keep the opposition quiet with a 1-0 win and it was a similar story when they travelled to Le Mans in December, albeit with more goals as they won 4-1. Even though PSG had a stutter last season, not winning the competition for the first time since 2014, they look extremely determined to get some silverware back in their trophy cabinet this year.
A strong win for the capital club?
Even though Pau managed to beat a down on its luck Bordeaux side a few weeks ago, PSG are in much better form and are of a much stronger quality than les Girondins and will prove a difficult task here. Pau’s home form has been wavering and with PSG scoring a boat load of goals on the road, we’re backing a confident win for the capital club. They have kept clean sheets in four of their last five away games so we’re backing this one to finish 3-0 to the visitors.
