Poland vs Belgium Predictions

  • Poland have lost only one of their last nine home games.
  • Belgium have failed to win each of their last four away games.
  • Robert Lewandowski, after ten goals in his last 12 Poland appearances, is expected to be fit to play.

Return of legendary Lewandowski has us leaning towards Poles

Robert Lewandowski’s expected return from injury could just push Poland over the line in their quest for another Nations League win when they host Belgium on Tuesday. The Eagles earned a superb point at the De Kuip on Saturday after tactically outwitting the Dutch and taking a two goal lead against the group leaders.

The hosts roared back after the break and missed a penalty to go ahead, but that kind of display without their talismanic targetman can only boost confidence in the camp. Poland will be out for revenge in Warsaw too after being hammered 6-1 by the Red Devils in Brussels last week.

That result is a big factor in why Czesław Michniewicz’s men have been priced up as 5/2 underdogs for the return fixture, but they are usually much more resilient at home. The Poles have lost only one of their last nine home games and, with Belgium having failed to win each of their last four on the road, the double chance option looks worthy of an interest here.

Red Devils were off colour in Cardiff

Roberto Martinez’s side looked a touch jaded in Cardiff on Saturday when substitute Brennan Johnson grabbed a late equaliser to get Wales off the ground in this group. There’s a pretty big drop-off in quality between Belgium’s first-choice keeper Thibaut Courtois, who is absent, and any understudy too, which further encourages the feeling that Poland can cause some problems.

Lewandowski, who opened the scoring in the 6-1 loss last week, has now hit ten goals in his last 12 Poland appearances, and is a cracking investment opportunity in the anytime goalscorer market at around 13/10. Poland have conceded in six of their last eight at home, so don’t expect a clean sheet from them here, but they can nick this 2-1.
