Port Vale returned to League One at the first time of asking following their 2024 relegation, and, while they may have lost their opener at Rotherham, the travelling fans will have taken plenty of positives from their 2-1 reversal.

The Valiants had 19 shots to Rotherham’s 12 and four big chances to the hosts’ one, so they will not be too disheartened by their opening-day defeat.

Cardiff, playing in the third tier for the first time in over 20 years, edged a 2-1 win over Peterborough, but it was not an overly convincing performance from the Bluebirds, and they may find it more difficult at Vale Park on Thursday.

The visitors only won twice on their travels en route to Championship relegation last season, so backing Vale to get their first points on the board appeals.
