Port Vale vs Fleetwood Town Predictions
- Port Vale lost just six of their 23 league outings at Vale Park in 2021/22
- Fleetwood failed to win any of their final seven league games last year
- The Valiants have not lost their opening home league match in the last four seasons
Can Port Vale carry their momentum forward?
It is only five weeks since Port Vale booked their return to the third tier by hammering Mansfield 3-0 in the League Two play-off final.
Darrell Clarke’s side had a stunning finish to the campaign, winning seven of their final nine home matches, and losing just two of the last dozen.
It has been an interesting summer in terms of recruitment, with Funso Ojo (Aberdeen) and Lewis Cass (Newcastle) the only two permanent arrivals, but pre-season results include a recent win over Rochdale.
Fleetwood need to turn the tide
New Fleetwood boss Scott Brown has a huge job on his hands to turn around a side who only narrowly avoided relegation last season, winning just one of their final 21 games.
The Cod Army picked up that victory against Crewe, who went down, but otherwise lost seven of their last 11 matches on the road.
Josh Vela from Shrewsbury is an extremely promising signing for the upcoming campaign though, while Josh Earl’s move from Preston comes with plenty of potential.
However, I predict that Port Vale will win this game, carrying forward their momentum from last season, with 2-1 to the Valiants my correct score prediction.
