      Portugal/Portugal

      Reason for tip

Chile finished rock-bottom in South American qualifying for the 2026 World Cup and they are unlikely to be a match for a talented Portugal side. Saturday’s visitors were 2-0 down at half-time in their last friendly and given they eventually lost that clash with a bang-average New Zealand 4-1, they look set to be second-best from start to finish in Lisbon.

      Portugal 4-0

      Reason for tip

Portugal scored a mammoth 20 goals in their six qualifiers and should put Chile to the sword. An impressive midfield and frontline should carve out plenty of chances while a solid defence can make it nine blanks in 11 away matches for their visitors.

      Portugal vs Chile Predictions

      • Chile have lost four of their last five away games
      • Portugal have lost just one of their last 11 matches
      • Chile have failed to score in eight of their last ten away games

Portugal’s preparations to get off to a perfect start

A 3-0 penalty-shootout win handed Chile the win when they last met Portugal in the 2017 Confederations Cup, but it seems extremely unlikely they will prevail when the pair clash in Lisbon on Saturday.

A dismal bottom-place finish in South American World Cup qualifying shows just how far Chile have fallen since those glory days under Jorge Sampaoli and Juan Antonio Pizzi, and they are coming up against a strong Portugal side.

Roberto Martinez’s men are among the favourites for this summer’s World Cup and have more than enough quality to put in a dominant display in their first all-important warmup game.

Chile’s cold away run to continue in Lisbon

Bruno Fernandes, Vitinha and Joao Neves make up an elite midfield and they should have no problem brushing Chile aside.

Martinez’s side scored 20 goals in their six World Cup qualifiers, highlighting the firepower at their disposal, and a La Roja team which has blanked in eight of their last ten away games is likely to struggle from start to finish.

Chile were 2-0 down at half-time in their last friendly and with that being a 4-1 defeat to a poor New Zealand side, Portugal are expected to punish them in a similar manner.
