Preston vs Blackpool Predictions

  • Both teams have scored in eight of the last ten Preston home league games.
  • Both teams have scored in five of Blackpool’s last six Championship away contests.
  • Preston have recovered the second-most points in the Championship from losing positions, Blackpool the sixth.

Lancashire rivals looking for quick pick-me-up

Tuesday’s clash of these two Lancashire rivals should be a rip-roaring affair as both Preston North End and Blackpool look to shake off disappointing weekend results quickly. Preston’s 1-0 loss at relegation-threatened Derby was not a total surprise, but the manner in which they went down would have hurt as much as the recognition that there can no longer be any serious hope of promotion.

Ryan Lowe’s men were on top until Liam Lindsey’s red card for hauling down a clean through Tom Lawrence, and then defended well enough for a point until Derby’s late winner. Preston will no doubt be up for this visit of Blackpool, who were summarily taken apart by Nottingham Forest at Bloomfield Road in Saturday’s early game.

Although Forest are clearly much better than Derby, Blackpool’s defeat was probably more damaging for their confidence as it came in front of national TV cameras and their highest home attendance of the season. Neil Critchley’s side will also be aiming to bounce back well against a team they deserved to beat 2-0 at home earlier this season.

Both sides tend to react positively to falling behind

One aspect of this midweek clash that intrigues us how each side would react to going behind and the evidence of the season so far is that in both cases it would be positive. Preston are second behind Coventry for the most points recovered from losing positions in the Championship this season and Blackpool are not far behind them in sixth.

That suggests there should be a good chance that both teams score and the recent stats for both clubs also align to the bet. Both teams have scored in eight of the last ten Preston home league games and also in five of Blackpool’s last six Championship away contests.

Our correct score forecast of 1-1 was a fairly obvious pick given half of Preston’s eight home draws have been by that scoreline and three of Blackpool’s last five away games have all finished that way too.
