      Preston vs Burton Albion Predictions

This is a huge game for both clubs. Preston are currently 7th and have a chance to pip Derby to the final play-off place. They would need to win this game, while Derby would have to lose at home to Barnsley for that to happen so it’s something of a long shot but not totally out of the question. Burton will certainly be hoping Derby win that game as they aim to leapfrog the Tykes and clinch survival.

The Brewers looked dead and buried when they lost 5-0 at home to Hull early last month but again they’ve proved that you simply can’t write them off. Since then, they’ve won three out of three to take their battle for survival to the very final day. Even the likes of Reading and Birmingham can be caught and it’s almost certain that they will survive if they win this game, given the difficult nature of the matches the sides they are chasing have.

Even a draw would be enough for the Brewers should Barnsley lose and Bolton fail to win and they will certainly head to Deepdale with plenty of renewed belief. However their task is made harder by Preston’s situation and the hosts are also in good form, having won 3 of their last 4.

It’s a game that certainly has the potential to deliver goals at each end. Burton have suddenly starting offering a bit more in the final third and have scored at least once in all but one of their last eight games. 6 of those matches produced goals at each end so it’s no longer just a case of wondering where the goals will come from, with the likes of Liam Boyce and Darren Bent up top starting to chip in a bit more regularly.

53% of Preston games this season have also seen both teams score. Perhaps surprisingly, they’ve really struggled for home clean sheets of late. Prior to a 0-0 draw with Norwich, they’d conceded in 10 consecutive Championship home games and that should also offer hope to Burton.

Therefore we have reason to fancy backing Both Teams to Score here. Also going for Burton Double Chance could be worth a flutter. They are the only one of the sides in the relegation scrap that takes real momentum into the final day and Preston’s home record isn’t exactly great, with just 5 wins from their last 18 at home in the Championship.

If you fancy a goalscorer bet, going for Sean Maguire to score anytime could be worth considering. He’s netted 10 goals in just 23 appearances in the league this term, with all of those strikes coming inside the box. 81% of Burton’s goals meanwhile have been conceded inside the area so they could be vulnerable to the predatory Irishman.
