Preston vs Derby Predictions
It’s hard to see there being many goals here. Preston have taken a safety first approach to the start of the new season which is understandable given they are in a higher tier and survival is their main aim although they could well achieve a little more than that.
5 points from 5 games is their return so far which is not bad given they’ve had 3 away games and their two visitors to Deepdale have been clubs who were involved in the Championship play-offs last year. They’ve kept things pretty tight at the back but have only scored 2 goals so far and goalscoring could be a bit of a worry both on Saturday against Derby and in future games.
Despite a poor start, Derby still have one of the best squads in the league and are still 4th favourites for promotion. Therefore Preston aren’t likely to try anything radically more expansive here and would probably settle for a repeat of the 0-0 draw they managed when another of the fancied sides, Middlesbrough visited on the opening day.
Derby are yet to score more than 1 goal in a game this season and although they keep the ball well and have very capable finishers, in the absence of the injured Will Hughes they lack anyone with the ability to pick out that killer ball that unlocks defences.
Therefore everything points towards a low scoring game here and you can back that to be case at 13/20. The visitors possess more quality and Paul Clement will probably have been grateful for the international break to allow his troops to re-group and work on a few things and he’ll be hopeful of a positive reaction here.
They are too good a side for this winless run to go on much longer and in contrast to their previous games where 1 goal has only been enough for a point or worse, it might be that that is all it takes to see off Preston.
Therefore consider backing Derby to break their duck for the season and win 1-0 at tempting odds of 13/2.
