Star-studded Parisians too hot to handle

Paris St-Germain get set for their first match since inflicting a 5-0 hiding on Inter Milan in the Champions League final and their Club World Cup campaign can get off to a flyer with victory over chief Group B rivals Atletico Madrid.

The Parisians impressed with their energy and intensity throughout their Champions League campaign, which also featured knockout stage victories over Premier League outfits Liverpool, Aston Villa and Arsenal.

Manager Luis Enrique has found the right balance between youth and experience and he guided PSG to a treble, having also secured them Ligue 1 silverware and the Coupe De France trophy.

PSG have lost only four of their last 41 matches and two of those defeats came when the Ligue 1 title was wrapped up. They ended up finishing 19 points clear of second-placed Marseille.

Spanish side may prefer home comforts

Atletico Madrid, meanwhile, could finish only third in La Liga and they were 12 points behind champions Barcelona, while in Europe they crashed out in the last 16 of the Champions League having suffered a penalty shootout defeat to fierce rivals Real.

Atletico struggled on their travels, winning only two of their final nine away games, so they have a point to prove at the Rose Bowl Stadium in California.

PSG, having racked up 15 goals in their last four matches, are likely to prove too explosive with Ousmane Dembele and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia leading from the front.

But correct-score punters may want to side with a slender 2-1 win, given that the French outfit have conceded in nine of their last 12 matches. Both teams have also scored in all three previous meetings between these European stalwarts.
