PSG vs Basel Predictions
PSG have had a difficult time of things at the start of this season. The departure of two key figures in the dressing room – manager Laurent Blanc and talisman striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic – hit the Paris giants hard. They won their opening three matches but then lost 3-1 at Monaco and failed to beat Saint Etienne and Arsenal at home.
Since then they have lost another Ligue 1 match, this time at the in form Toulouse, and find themselves four points adrift of the excellent Nice at the top of the Ligue 1 table. They did manage to get a 3-1 win at Ludogorets though despite going a goal behind early on.
Since that defeat to Toulouse things have turned around for PSG. Edinson Cavani has come into his own up front and begun stepping into the very large shoes left behind by Ibrahimovic. The Uruguayan hitman has netted 12 goals this season, with five of those coming in his last three outings in a PSG shirt. Only four of those have come at home, but I wouldn’t bet against him adding to that on Wednesday.
Basel are enjoying a decent time of things in the Belgian Super League, as you would expect from the dominants of Belgian football. They lead 2nd placed Lausanne Sport by a ridiculous 14 points after just 11 games, so I think we already know where the title is heading this season.
The Champions League is a bit different though. They could only muster a point at home to Ludogorets in their group stage opener back in September, and they lost 2-0 at the Emirates in match-day two of the Champions League. This is their only defeat of the season, but they’re expected to add to that on Wednesday.
With PSG back in form and still unbeaten at the Parc des Princes this season, I would be amazed if Basel managed to get anything from this game. The hosts have won by at least two goals in four of their six home games this season and the huge gulf in class between the sides push me towards another comfortable win for the hosts. Odds of 2.050 for a PSG -2.0 Asian Handicap Win look very good value to me, and I’m going for that along with a 3-0 correct score prediction at 6/1.
