PSG entered the Christmas break with a 3-0 away crushing of Caen, who had proven themselves to be a pretty solid football team and were placed second at the time, even now they’re still in fourth place. It really cemented their complete dominance of Ligue 1 this season. They’ve played 19, won 16 and drawn just three. Meanwhile, they’ve tallied an incredible 48 goals, while conceding only nine. They’re an amazing 19 points clear of second place already and there are no obvious challengers emerging from the chasing pack.

Motivation is going to be the biggest challenge moving forward for PSG. They have a Champions League last 16 tie coming up against Chelsea and a Coupe de la Ligue quarter-final up against Lyon next week.

Travelling to Paris isn’t an easy place to go looking for points, but Bastia do need points if they’re to get clear of the bottom three. They should be fresh and they entered the break with a confidence building 2-0 home win against Stade Reims after a difficult period.

1. Odds are getting silly for PSG

As much as PSG has dominated Ligue 1 this season, expecting or predicting them to win by three goals everytime is a bit too much. Yes, it’s a home game, yes they should be fresh and Bastia certainly aren’t the toughest opportunity, we just don’t expect PSG to be motivated and determined enough to rack up the goals on Friday night.

2. Give Bastia some credit

They didn’t play good football during a period starting in November and they slipped into the relegation conversation, but that doesn’t give enough credit to a Bastia team that shouldn’t spend too much battling in that conversation. They should be a lot more competitive than that and we’ll back them to start 2016 in the right way.

3. Christmas rust

We’re not expecting this to be the perfectly played game, with the break just past and January transfer window looming, look for both teams to feel the game out a little bit early on, which should help in keeping the game lower-scoring and competitive.
