Underdogs set to dent Parisiens’ title ambitions
A first leg defeat to Manchester City in the Champions League semi-finals has put PSG’s season in jeopardy and we are likely to see a heavily rotated lineup on Saturday, despite the incredibly close title race in Ligue 1.
The reigning French champions currently sit in an unfamiliar second place, a point behind Lille and only one point ahead of third place Monaco. It’s shaping up to be the most exciting title race in Europe, and Lens could put another dent in PSG’s ambitions on Saturday.
Promoted back to Ligue 1 for the first time since 2015, Lens have been the surprise package of the season in France. The pre-season relegation candidates find themselves in the running for Europa League qualification and their 2-1 win over Nimes last weekend made it 13 league games without defeat.
Their last defeat away from home came in their first match of 2021 and since then they have taken 16 points from eight games on the road. Amazingly, PSG have won just three of their last nine home games in all competitions, so victory is far from assured at Parc des Princes.
The Parisiens have scored in 16 of their last 18 Ligue 1 outings though and with Lens conceding in each of their last nine away games a clean sheet for the underdogs is unlikely.
Sang et Or have themselves only failed to score in two away games this season though, so backing both teams to find the net is recommended. Three of Lens’s last seven draws have ended 2-2, so that’s our pick for a correct score prediction.
- Paris Saint-Germain’s last three Ligue 1 matches have each produced over 3.5 goals
- Both teams scored in Paris Saint-Germain’s last Ligue 1 game
