Draw

Reason for tip

The hosts are unbeaten in 30 home games but the visitors have avoided defeat in their last nine so, given that three of PSV’s last five Champions League games have finished level while three of Dortmund’s last five away matches have been draws, backing a close encounter could prove profitable.

Draw 1-1

Reason for tip

PSV’s last two Champions League draws have finished 1-1 and the same scoreline looks likely on Tuesday. Dortmund’s last match finished 1-1 as did their last Champions League fixture, so it could be worth backing that score in Eindhoven.

PSV vs Borussia Dortmund Predictions

  • PSV are unbeaten in 30 home matches, winning 26 in that run
  • Dortmund avoided defeat in their last five group stage games, beating Newcastle twice and drawing with PSG in that sequence
  • Both teams have scored in eight of PSV’s Champions League games this season

Tight encounter expected in Eindhoven

PSV have been exceptional on their own patch for a while now, avoiding defeat in their last 30 home matches and winning 26 in that run, suggesting they should have enough to contain a side with far more European pedigree on Tuesday.

Dortmund will be tough opponents though. They have become Champions League knockout phase regulars over the past decade or so and have impressed in continental action again this term, topping a group including PSG, AC Milan and Newcastle.

BVB won both matches against Newcastle and also won in Milan and should use their wealth of experience to could come away from Eindhoven with a positive result.

Dortmund heading for draw

However, Dortmund look unlikely to manage a win against PSV, who themselves impressed in the group stage by holding Arsenal and Sevilla to draws at the Phillips Stadion, as their away knockout record has been poor recently.

BVB have lost eight of their last nine away knockout matches in the Champions League and, given PSV’s exceptional home record, Edin Terzic may be happy with taking a draw from this first-leg.

Three of the host’s last five Champions League matches finished level while Dortmund have drawn three of their last five away games, suggesting there will be little to split the two on Tuesday.
