Pumas UNAM vs Emelec Betting Tips and Predictions

Pumas finished top of the regular season in Mexico’s 2015 Apertura and as such are back in the Libertadores after a 10 year absence and they are likely to do a bit better than their last showing when they picked up just 1 point in the group stage.

They’ve not hit the ground running in 2016 and are mid-table in the Clasura after 6 matches but are unbeaten in 3 and won at the weekend beating Doradas 3-2 away from home. This isn’t an impossible group so both teams here will think they have a chance of progressing.

Emelec will be very tough to beat at home but would be grateful of any sort of points return here. Their away record in the Libertadores makes for grim reading. They’ve played 26 away matches in it over the past decade, winning just 1 and losing on 20 occasions.

For that reason alone you have to like the look of Pumas at 5/6 to win this one and Emelec have unhappy memories of their last trip to Mexico when they exited this competition at the Quarter Final stage last year with a 2-0 defeat at Tigres.

Despite that decent run, they’ve lost all of their last 4 Libertadores away games to nil and they are only 2 games into their domestic season so could still have some rust to shake off here. Pumas players and fans alike will be pumped up for this game and they look like a solid bet at 7/1 to win it 2-0.
