Rangers vs Napoli Predictions

Rangers in a difficult spot

It was no secret that Rangers had a difficult Champions League group, but they are already in a tough position after just one game in Group A. A 4-0 loss to Ajax in their opener showed the gulf in class and their second game is no easier.

Napoli top Serie A after six rounds of games and the side from Naples made waves last week with their 4-1 hammering of Liverpool. Now the Italian side head to Glasgow full of confidence, with neither the 24-hour delay nor the lack of away fans likely to slow them down.

Comprehensive defeats for hosts

Following their weekend postponement, Rangers have lost 4-0 in back-to-back games going into this clash against Napoli. While they were able to reach the Europa League final last season, they’ve been falling short in big games of late.

The same can’t be said for the visitors, who secured a narrow 1-0 win over Spezia at the weekend. While that wasn’t the most impressive of wins, it was a solid result in the middle of two big European games, while they held on for a slender success which has the Partenopei top in Italy.

Visitors to prove too strong

Napoli have now won their last three games, with that run starting with a 2-1 victory at Lazio in their last away game. Having proven they can handle themselves on the road, I expect Napoli to claim all three points at Ibrox on Wednesday.

The hosts couldn’t get near Ajax in their Amsterdam defeat and Napoli simply look too strong for them to bounce back in any meaningful way. The Partenopei have won seven of their last nine on the road and they’ve scored twice in seven of those, so I’m backing Napoli to take the points in a 2-0 victory.
