Tip Reasoning

This promises to be an entertaining game as two of the early season pace-setters in the Eliteserien meet. Just one point and one place separates these two clubs currently and they are clearly right in the mix for European qualification, which would be an excellent achievement for either side. However with Brann already looking like they could break clear at the top, any title ambitions may have to be put on hold.

Ranheim have been the huge surprise package. They only finished 4th in the Norwegian second tier last term and were promoted from the play-offs so survival would have been their main objective this term. However their current average of 1.92 points per game is actually better than what they managed a division lower down last season, so Svein Maalen is certainly doing a remarkable job.

His side’s progress did come to a bit of a halt last time out though. Having won four on the spin, they succumbed to a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of struggling Bodo/Glimt. Therefore it will be interesting to see what the reaction is here, given they were absolutely flying prior to that, scoring three or more goals in all of those previous four wins.

Sarpsborg meanwhile scored four last time out. Their 4-2 victory over Stabaek was their fourth straight victory so they will take plenty of confidence into this one. They know they’d go 2nd with a win and having finished 3rd last term they are certainly a side of more proven quality, which explains why they are the favourites for the win here.

Both sides have put in some eye-catching attacking displays and rather than betting on the result, backing there to be goals could be the better move. 83% of Ranheim home games and 75% of their matches overall this term have produced over 2.5 goals. They are the division’s top scorers with 1.92 goals per game scored and have been very positive in just about every game they’ve played since winning promotion.

Sarpsborg meanwhile are the side with the Norwegian top flight’s second best goalscoring record. They’ve netted 1.83 per game on average and 67% of their matches have produced over 2.5 goals in total.

Therefore we have plenty of reason to fancy backing Over 2.5 Goals in this game.

Going for Mads Reginiussen to score anytime also appeals. The Ranheim skipper is having a fine season with 7 goals in 9 matches so far.
