Can Rayo pull off an upset?

It has been a respectable start to the La Liga season for Rayo Vallecano, who have accumulated seven points from their opening five games.

However, there is a concern over the fact they have been beaten by Espanyol, as well as league leaders Barcelona, while the two teams they have lost to both sit in the bottom half of the table.

This is also not a match-up that they enjoy. The Red Sashes have failed to beat Atletico in 16 attempts since 2001, a run that includes a whopping 13 defeats!

You would therefore make the visitors firm favourites to continue on their merry way and wrack up another victory here.

Diego Simeone’s side have certainly shown some good touch at the start of the campaign, winning four times in five six games across all competitions, including the last three in a row.

That run includes victory over Valencia (3-1) and then RB Leipzig (2-1) in the UEFA Champions League, with the goal the German side scored in that game the first the Spaniards have conceded since the opening day!

They have also been tough to beat on the road in recent months, going five away La Liga games without defeat since August.
