Real Madrid and Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Real Madrid won all of their group stage games and should be too strong for Leipzig in this clash. However, they conceded in all of their away games in the group stage and, given that both teams have scored in RB’s last ten home matches, it may pay to back the hosts to net in defeat.

Real Madrid 3-1

Reason for tip

RB Leipzig were beaten 3-1 at home by Manchester City in the group stage and a similar result looks likely against another supremely talented side. Madrid netted three times in two of their away group stage games but should concede on their travels again.

RB Leipzig vs Real Madrid Predictions

  • Both teams have scored in Leipzig’s last ten Champions League home matches
  • Real Madrid have not lost a match within 90 minutes in their last 27 outings, winning 21 in that run
  • Los Blancos won all three of their away group stage games, with both teams scoring in each of those fixtures

Mighty Madrid to take first-leg advantage

Real Madrid have been exceptional this season, winning all six of their Champions League group matches and now sitting five points clear at the top of La Liga following a dominant display in their 4-0 thrashing of closest rivals Girona on Saturday.

They will be keen to continue that form on Tuesday when heading to Germany to take on RB Leipzig in the last-16 of the Champions League and they should be feeling confident too, with their hosts having lost three of their last five matches.

Leipzig could only manage a draw with bottom-half Bundesliga side Augsburg on Saturday and a repeat of that performance – that saw them outshot 11-9 by an outfit 14 points worse off than them – would surely see them put to the sword by an extremely talented Madrid team, led by Vinicius Junior who grabbed a goal and two assists in the drubbing of Girona.

Leipzig likely to trouble Los Blancos

However, Leipzig should at least be confident of getting on the scoresheet, even if they fail to earn a point on Tuesday.

Both teams have scored in the hosts’ last ten Champions League home games and they managed to net three goals across their two meetings with champions Manchester City in the group stage, highlighting the attacking talent in their squad.

Madrid won all three of their group stage away matches but both teams scored in all of those fixtures, with Los Blancos shipping five goals in total on their travels in this competition this term, so backing a win for Carlo Ancelotti’s side with net-bulging action from both sides looks a solid play for Tuesday’s clash in Leipzig.
