Watford 2-0

Reason for tip

Both previous games between these clubs this season finished 2-0 to the home side, but a 2-0 away win is preferred here because Watford have had better preparation.

Reading vs Watford Predictions

  • Both teams have not scored in two of Reading’s last three Championship games.
  • Both teams have not scored in ten of Watford’s last 11 league matches.
  • Both previous games between these clubs this season finished 2-0 to the home side.

Impotent promotion chasers could cancel each other out

One or both of Reading and Watford should be able to keep a clean sheet when two of the least-potent promotion chasers meet on Saturday.

Only Cardiff have scored fewer Championship goals than Reading in the last month and Watford have managed to produce only one more goal than the Royals in that period.

Slaven Bilic’s side have ground out some results to keep themselves firmly in the playoff hunt, but the top two are not getting any closer. Paul Ince’s men have slipped down to 16th place on the back of some iffy form, but they remain two wins away from being back in the thick of it.

Hornets can sting Reading

This could end in a home victory if the two past meetings between these clubs this term are anything to go by – both 2-0 home wins with Reading taking the most recent one in the cup against a much-changed Hornets line-up.

The outcome here could be similar in that there won’t be many goals and the team that gets the first will probably go on to win. Both teams have not scored in two of Reading’s last three Championship games while the same is true of all but one of Watford’s last 11 league matches.

Hence both teams to score no is the recommended play and a 2-0 away win suggested for correct score backers. The Hornets had a free weekend to get some training ground work done last weekend while Reading received a run-around at Old Trafford, losing Andy Carroll to suspension, and that should favour the visitors this weekend.
