Tip Reasoning

Real Madrid may not have been at their best away to Bayern Munich last Wednesday night, but the La Liga giants still strengthened their position as they chase an unprecedented third consecutive Champions League title.

Despite a Keylor Navas mistake seeing them go 1-0 down in the first half, Zinedine Zidane’s men fought back to claim a 2-1 win at the Allianz Arena, and now look to avoid the same sort of close call that they almost fell victim to against Juventus in the quarter finals.

In preparation Zidane rested a host of first team players at home to Leganes at the weekend, with the two most notable absentees being Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos. Those two will be back in the starting lineup come Tuesday, but with Bayern Munich also resting the majority of their first team players, it’s no real advantage for either team.

Bayern Munich will be slightly more optimistic than you would expect coming into this mountainous task though. Real Madrid have won just one of their last four competitive home games, and they have actually lost four of their last 14 games at the Bernabeu. This might not seem like a huge amount, but considering two of them came against Villarreal and Leganes, it does show that they aren’t unstoppable at home.

Bayern Munich, meanwhile, have won seven of their last nine competitive matches and have already wrapped up the Bundesliga trophy. They have also won eight of their 11 Champions League games this term, so a 2-1 deficit isn’t an impossibility to turn over.

The German giants’ away form isn’t exactly bad either. They have won a huge 13 of their last 14 competitive trips away, scoring 44 goals in the process and only losing to RB Leipzig back in March.

Looking at both teams’ form is all well and good, but the real confidence boost for Jupp Heynckes team will come from Real Madrid’s last home tie in the Champions League. They were atrocious against Juventus, and Keylor Navas’ repeated mistakes in the big games will boost the visitors’ attack even more. We think Bayern are massively undervalued here, so we’re backing an away win at 11/5.

Bayern Munich haven’t failed to score at home since the middle of January though, so keeping a clean sheet against them is another matter entirely. This makes a Bayern Munich Win and Both Teams to Score look attractive too, along with a 2-1 correct score predictions to take the tie into extra time.

If there’s one man Bayern Munich can rely on it’s Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker has scored 28 Bundesliga goals and five Champions League goals in just 38 appearances this season and has scored three in his last two away games, so we’re backing him to get on the scoresheet too.

Bayern Munich Predicted Lineup: Ulreich, Kimmich, Sule, Hummels, Rafinha, Alcantara, Javi Martinez, Rodriguez, Ribery, Muller, Lewandoski
