Reason For Real Madrid vs Celta Vigo Predictions

  • Leaders Real Madrid have won their last five La Liga matches and are unbeaten at home in the league this season, winning eight and drawing three.
  • Celta Vigo have won just once on the road this season, drawing three and losing seven.
  • Six of the last seven meetings between the sides have produced over 3.5 goals, including Real’s 1-3 success at Balaidos on the opening day of the season.

Real seeking sixth straight win this Sunday

Real Madrid had to work extremely hard to tough out a 1-0 success against cross-city rivals Atleti at the Bernabeu on Matchday 22, but they prevailed in far cosier fashion last weekend as goals from Isco, Sergio Ramos, Lucas Vazquez and Luka Jovic sealed a 1-4 triumph at Osasuna.

It was the perfect way to bounce back for Los Blancos following their Copa Del Rey Quarter-Final defeat to Real Sociedad (3-4) and Zinedine Zidane’s side have now won five La Liga matches on the spin. They are unbeaten in 14 league games (W10, D4) since succumbing to a shock 1-0 defeat at Mallorca in October and head into this Sunday’s encounter against Celta unbeaten at the Bernabeu in La Liga this term (W8, D3).

Real have comfortably won the last four league meetings between the sides, including a 1-3 victory at Balaidos on the opening day of the season, while they have also triumphed in their last seven La Liga fixtures against Celestes at the Bernabeu.

Celta fighting for their lives

There’s clearly plenty in the hosts’ favour going into this weekend’s fixture, and it’s easy to see why Los Blancos are 2/7 favourites to beat a Celta side who have won just once on the road this season (W1, D3 and L7). Celestes will be far from confident ahead of their trip to the Bernabeu, which arguably represents their most difficult game of the season, although they will probably feel this is a bit of a free hit after their superb comeback victory against Sevilla on Matchday 23.

Late goals from Iago Aspas and Pione Sisto sank Los Palanganas to lift Celta out of the relegation zone, so we should at least expect the visitors to go for this a little bit and play with their heads held high.

Celta have netted in all but one of their last seven away matches and in 10 of their last 12 meetings against Los Blancos, so it would be no surprise to see Oscar Garcia’s side contribute here to what should be another high-scoring affair between the teams.

Back a Real win and goals at the Bernabeu

It’s always entertaining when these two sides lock horns, with a massive 55 goals netted in the last 12 meetings. Six of the last seven encounters have produced over 3.5 goals, so we think backing a Real win and over 3.5 goals this Sunday night holds great appeal at odds-against.

Madrid have been more efficient and less free-scoring on the whole this term compared to previous seasons; however, they have still been averaging over two goals per game at home, and of course struck four times at Osasuna on Matchday 23.

So alongside our Real/Total Goals wager, we’re also tipping up a 3-1 correct score, with Celta at least fancied to get in on the act.
