Real Madrid vs Chelsea Predictions

  • Real Madrid won the first leg 3-1.
  • Real have won seven of their last nine home games in the Champions League.
  • Chelsea have lost at Juventus and Manchester City this season.
  • Karim Benzema has scored 13 goals in his last eight appearances.

Chelsea face huge task in Madrid

Real Madrid hold a commanding 3-1 lead over Chelsea ahead of the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie at the Bernabeu.

Los Blancos picked up a deserved win in the first meeting at Stamford Bridge but the Blues responded in style at the weekend with a 6-0 win at Southampton.

However, Real have an excellent home record and they look good value to finish this tie off with another win on Tuesday.

Bernabeu a stronghold for Real

Real Madrid have only lost twice at home this season, to Sheriff Tiraspol in the group stages of this competition and to Barcelona, and they’ve won five of their last six in Madrid.

The Spanish giants overcame PSG 3-1 in their last home game in Europe and have won seven of their last nine home games in the Champions League, and they look good value to make it eight in 10 ahead of Chelsea’s visit.

I am expecting a better display from Chelsea after that lacklustre showing in the first leg and they do boast an impressive away record, but they have fallen short on their travels against quality opponents – losing at Juventus in Europe and Manchester City in the Premier League.

Both teams capable of scoring

Real have conceded in six of their last 10 games overall and have just one clean sheet in their last four at home, so we may see goals at both ends and a 2-1 win for the hosts is the correct score selection.

Chelsea have scored in each of their last eight trips and they managed to find a way through against Real in the first leg, so the Premier League side should at least be able to get on the scoresheet even if they are unable to fight back and qualify for the last four.

Karim Benzema hit a hat-trick in the first leg and can add to his Champions League account when Chelsea visit. The Frenchman didn’t score against Getafe on Saturday but he had scored in each of his previous seven appearances, hitting 13 goals in total, and has scored in all three of his appearances in the Champions League at the Bernabeu this season.
