Real Madrid vs Club Brugge Predictions
Real Madrid face the challenge of an in-form Club Brugge side in week two of this season’s UEFA Champions League. Real kicked off this season’s campaign suffering a disappointing 3-0 loss away to PSG and will be hoping to put that behind them and show their class at home vs Club Brugge.
Needless to say, Real undoubtedly have more quality than Club Brugge. However, this game will be an interesting test for Real who have lost just one match in all competitions this season, their game vs PSG. Although, Madridistas haven’t exactly been blown away by their side’s performances this season.
Real have won just 2 games by more than one goal this season. While Zidane’s side have dominated most games as you’d expect, they have been susceptible to conceding on the counter. This has led to a few scares this season for Madrid fans in games they would expect to win comfortably.
This game will be another in which Madrid fans will accept nothing less than a win. Brugge however, will not be travelling to Madrid just to lie down. Unlike Real, Brugge are undefeated in all competitions this season, drawing their opening Champions League game with Galatasaray. This leaves them on an impressive 14-game unbeaten run.
The quality of Brugge’s domestic competition is obviously lower than Real’s. However, a 14-game unbeaten run is nothing to turn your nose up at. Real’s complacency has cost them dearly in recent times, notably last season at home vs Ajax. Zidane will need to guard against this at all costs this week.
Real have not won at home in Europe in their last 2 attempts. They lost 4-1 vs Ajax last time out, getting knocked out of the Champions League in the process. They also lost their last home group-stage fixture last season, as CSKA took a 3-0 victory from the Bernabeu.
Real have also managed to keep just one clean sheet in their last 9 home games in the Champions League.
Both of these sides are yet to score in this season’s competition. However, we feel that they are both likely to get on the score-sheet this Tuesday.
There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 32 of Real’s last 35 Champions League games. Meanwhile, Brugge have scored an average of over 2.5 goals per game domestically this season on their own. We believe that this impressive statistic will grow this Tuesday, with over 2.5 goals being scored once again.
Ultimately, we feel that this game is a must-win game for Real Madrid. They can’t afford to look past this game, and we feel that they will come away with all 3 points.
Luka Modric returned for Real at the weekend vs Atletico. He will add much needed creativity to Real’s midfield if he features this Tuesday. We feel that Real could come away with a hard-fought 3-1 win.
